Maria Sharapova defeated Simona Halep in the final, 1–6, 6–2, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2014 Madrid Open.

Serena Williams was the two-time defending champion, but withdrew before her quarterfinal match because of a left thigh injury.[1]
